Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Daniel Sturridge did exactly what was asked of him in the second-half of the 3-0 victory at home to Huddersfield Town last weekend.
With Liverpool having been held by a well-organised Huddersfield team in the first half, Klopp asked Sturridge and fellow attacker Roberto Firmino, who was deployed on the left flank, to frequently switch positions.
The approach paid dividends as Sturridge capitalised upon a defensive error to open the scoring for Liverpool, although Klopp joked that the striker celebrated for about 12 minutes.
Klopp told reporters: "As a manager you do not have a lot of moments when you think: 'That's exactly what I spoke about. At half-time it was exactly the positioning we asked of Roberto and Daniel.
"He celebrated for 12 minutes or something, so it was obviously a special one."
Sturridge has endured much frustration in recent seasons due to injuries and he has often been unable to command a regular place in the Liverpool starting line-up even when he has been fully fit.
However, the 28-year-old is certainly a very difficult player for opposing defenders to deal with when his pace and trickery is taken into account – Sturridge has created nine chances in the Premier League this season and has succeeded with all eight of his attempted take-ons.
