The Premier League’s top scorer is rated as 50/50 by Spurs medical staff as he battles to shake -off a hamstring injury.

And Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino must now decide whether to play Kane against United and risk aggravating an injury which has already brought into doubt his participation in Wednesday’s Champions League showdown with Real Madrid.

Kane was left out of Tottenham’s squad for Wednesday night’s 3-2 Carabao Cup defeat to West Ham.

The England star picked up the injury in Tottenham’s 4-1 hammering of Liverpool last Sunday, where Kane took his tally the Premier League to eight with a brace before being withdrawn with two minutes to go.

Asked whether Kane would return to his starting line-up after watching his side blow a two-goal lead against the Hammers, Pochettino said: “We’ll see, we’ll see.

"We need to assess the team because we were forced to rotate for different reasons and we’ll see what happens in the next few days.”

Pochettino has also revealed he’s had to treat Dele Alli with kid gloves after the whizkid landed three new contracts in a year.

"Dele, when he first arrived at MK Dons, had a burning need to prove his worth and showed that in every training session, constantly putting his body on the line,” revealed Pochettino in a new book, Brave New World.

"But now, a year on, Dele has signed three new contracts, each with a wage hike.

"It’s normal for them to believe, and their entourage to tell them, that their position in the hierarchy has changed.

"And it has, because of what they offer us. That’s where the coach, who has witnessed their development, has to tread carefully and to realise they are no longer the up-and-coming kids of a year back.

"A year ago, you could yell at Dele during a session, but now you necessarily have to strike a different tone.

"You have to deal with them more sensitively and grant them the odd privilege that would’ve been impossible before.”

The Argentine has faced accusations he has not been strict enough with Alli, who hothead antics saw him banned by the FA, UEFA and FIFA over the last two seasons and also face accusations of being a diver.
