Lewandowski: If I had been 100 percent against Real Madrid, we could have won the Champions League

Bayern Munich would have had a very good chance of eliminating Real Madrid from the Champions League last season if Robert Lewandowski had been fully fit, the striker believes.

Los Blancos were victorious 6-3 on aggregate during their quarter-final clash but the Polish forward thinks things could have been different if he hadn't been carrying an injury.

"We played well throughout Carlo Ancelotti's first season and without my injury in the Champions League, we would have had a high chance of reaching the final," Lewandowski told ESPN FC.

"If I had been at 100 percent against Real Madrid, I think we could have advanced to the semi-final and then, who knows, we could have won the Champions League."

The former Borussia Dortmund man also refused to dwell too much on comments from Bayern's Karl-Heinz Rummenigge that Real were the striker's 'dream club' and is confident about the rest of the campaign with Jupp Heynckes in charge once more.

"I don't know exactly who Rummenigge meant in that case and I don't know where he said it," he continued.

"It's important to know which kind of newspaper quoted him"

For us now, it is a new season and a new challenge with a new coach but we know that we must push on now as there are a lot of games left.

"We have work to do to qualify in the Champions League after our defeat at PSG and must play until the end. Who knows? Maybe we'll win both the Champions League and the Bundesliga."

Lewandowski also elaborated on comments he made last year about the Ballon d'Or awards being a 'cabaret' and revealed why the award will never hold any kind of importance to him.

"I don't know why some players are placed in 50th or 5th because it is only the first three places which are important and that's why I was a little bit shocked last year," the striker said.

"I was playing at a high level for Bayern Munich and scoring lots of goals in the Bundesliga and the Champions League but I don't know what place I was so it was maybe a little funny.

"The award isn't important to me because success at Bayern is more important, especially in the Champions League.

"The Ballon d'Or is never my focus."
