Thomas Tuchel is front-runner to replace Carlo Ancelotti at Bayern Munich

Thomas Tuchel has emerged as the early favourite to replace Carlo Ancelotti at the helm of Bayern Munich with the Italian sacked on Thursday.

Initially it was thought that 30-year-old Julian Nagelsmann was primed for the position following a spectacular short spell with Hoffenheim, however it now looks as though the Bavarian giants are veering towards a more experienced candidate.

According to German newspaper Bild, the former Borussia Dortmund coach is the favoured candidate of those in power at the Allianz Arena.

Tuchel has enjoyed spells with Augsburg, Mainz and most recently the Bavarian club's fiercest rivals, with the German coach especially successful at Dortmund where his style of football received widespread acclaim.

His time at Signal Iduna Park ended prematurely at the end of the 2016/17 season with relations between himself and the club's hierarchy broken beyond repair.

There has been a suggestion that Tuchel has a difficult personality and this led people to believe that Bayern Munich wouldn't be interested.

Such has been the shift in style from Pep Guardiola to Ancelotti, though, there is a desire amongst those behind the scenes in Bavaria to hire a coach capable of quality football.

One of the major criticisms of the former Real Madrid coach was that he didn't spend enough time training his players which was a notable difference from Guardiola's methods.

Until a permanent decision is made, Willy Sagnol will take control of first-team affairs, his first match on the bench will come on Sunday against Hertha Berlin.
