Manchester City's Ilkay Gundogan was forced off injured in his first start since December last year following a tackle by West Brom's Claudio Jacob
Ilkay Gundogan could be set for yet another spell on the sidelines after the Manchester City midfielder limped off during the 2-1 Carabao Cup win at West Brom on Wednesday.
The Germany international returned following nine months out with a knee injury as a second-half substitute in the 6-0 victory over Watford in the Premier League on Saturday.
But in his first start since December, Gundogan appeared to suffer an ankle injury after being brought down by West Brom midfielder Claudio Yacob in the 58th minute.
The 26-year-old received medical treatment on the pitch before being helped off, with defender Kyle Walker coming on to replace him.
Gundogan, who has been dogged by back and knee injuries during his career, became manager Pep Guardiola's first signing as City manager when he joined from Borussia Dortmund in June 2016.
However, injury has restricted him to just 18 appearances in all competitions.
