EDERSON has been out and about in Manchester sporting a huge dressing to cover his battle scars after being booted in the face by Sadio Mane.

The Man City goalkeeper was in town for a meal with his nearest and dearest in Deansgate, hours after he was booted by the Senegalese.

Mane was controversially sent off for his troubles, with many, including Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp protesting he should have stayed on the pitch.

The 25-year-old's boot was high and clobbered Ederson in the chops as the keeper raced out to head a ball clear just outside his area.

Replays showed Mane appeared to have eyes only for the ball after a lofted pass put him through, but his studs caught the Brazilian in an ugly fashion.

Referee Jon Moss could only throw the book at the striker and it remains to be seen if he will have his red card overturned or his mandatory suspension reduced.

Moss was criticised for showing the red, but he seemingly had little choice with the challenge deemed serious foul play.

Ederson, meanwhile, was given oxygen and taken off on a stretcher after the incident after eight minutes of treatment.

Mane posted an apology on social media in the hours after the game.

He said: "I hope and wish Ederson a quick recovery.

"I am so sorry he was hurt during our accidental collision on the pitch and am sorry for him he could not complete the match because of it.

"I pray he heals fast and is back playing very soon."

City were 1-0 up at the time and then went on to win 5-0 in Klopp's heaviest defeat as Reds manager and the first time the Citizens have netted five against their local rivals since 1937.

Brazilian youngster Gabriel Jesus netted two after Sergio Aguero's opener and Leroy Sane also bagged two.

Pep Guardiola's side are now second in the Premier League, behind rivals Manchester United only on goal difference on ten points.
