Diafra Sakho’s West Ham exit delayed because of a horse

Diafra Sakho's attempts to leave West Ham are certainly the most entertaining backdrop to transfer deadline day.

In a series of events reminiscent of Peter Odemwingie's legendary drive to QPR to force a move through, the Hammers striker is now being left in limbo a bit by one of his advisers.

Despite claims from West Ham chairman David Gold on Twitter last night that he was going nowhere, Sakho reportedly went all the way to French side Rennes to pass a medical.

He then came back to the UK in a bid to orchestrate his departure from the east London club - but something was holding it up.

That something, according to Sky Sports, was a horse running in the 3.20 Chelmsford.

Sakho is desperate to leave West Ham

Sakho reportedly landed in England around 2.20 on Thursday afternoon but, because one of his advisers has a share in the horse, was forced to delay talks.

The horse - named Siege of Boston - actually WON too, so the detour was completely worth it.

What a time to be alive

Sakho would then return to east London to tell Slaven Bilic and co. his intends to leave before the 11pm deadline.

The 27-year-old has been a Hammers player since joining from Metz in 2014, scoring 16 goals in 51 Premier League appearances.

Have we seen a more bizarre transfer deadline day story in history? Neigh.
