PSG to sign young Estudiantes defender Juan Foyth after Spurs pull out of deal

Tottenham appear set to miss out on defensive target Juan Foyth from Estudiantes with PSG now the favourites to secure his signature.

Foyth, a 19-year-old Argentina youth international, had looked likely to become Spurs' first signing of the summer after the club had made an offer to Estudiantes.

Mauricio Pochettino was reportedly keen to add the towering defender to his squad to provide cover to his first-team partnership Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.

But now it seems as though the Premier League runners-up will miss out.

Why did Spurs pull out of Foyth deal?

Spurs are operating under an extremely strict transfer budget this summer as they prepare to move into their new stadium ahead of the 2018-19 season which could explain why they are the only Premier League club yet to make a signing.

And it appears as though they have been beaten to the chase for Foyth as PSG have offered both player and club a more enticing deal.

It has been reported that Spurs offered a deal worth £8.5m for Foyth but not all of that fee was up front with additional payments and clauses inserted to the offer.

Conversely, PSG are prepared to pay the Argentine club the whole £8.5m up front and can offer the player a significantly higher weekly wage which is likely to have swung the deal.

According to L'Equipe, PSG's sporting director Antero Henrique flew back from the United States to conclude the deal with Foyth's agents in Paris and it looks as though he could become the club's second signing of the summer, following Dani Alves.

Spurs beat PSG 4-2 in the International Champions Cup with Christian Eriksen, Eric Dier, Toby Alderweireld and Harry Kane amongst the scorers for Pochettino's side.
