Chelsea are set to confirm the club record deal today before the Spanish striker joins his new team-mates in Singapore for next week’s friendlies against Bayern Munich and Inter Milan.

The Real Madrid star said he spoke to former Blues striker Torres as well as current defender Cesar Azpilicueta.

Torres scored just 20 league goals for Chelsea in three-and-a-half years after joining from Liverpool for £50m.

"I have spoken with Fernando, who told me he’ll give me a hand with whatever I need," said Morata after jetting in for his medical yesterday.

"I have been training hard for whatever outcome, but I was clear that this was my objective.

"It’s sad to leave Real Madrid, but I hope that everything will go well for me at Chelsea."

Morata has been offered a five year deal worth around £170,000-a-week after previously looking set to join Manchester United.

Asked how close he came to joining United, the 24-year-old said: "I don’t know, the most important thing is I’m here playing for Chelsea. Finally I’m here.

"This is the best club.

"Antonio Conte is one of the best coaches in the world and I’m so happy to work with Antonio.

"I’m going to the team managed by the coach who has placed the most faith in me and that’s great for me. I’m very happy."

Chelsea said yesterday that no shirt number has yet been allocated to their new star signing.

It has also emerged that Chelsea looked into the possibility of signing Brazil superstar Neymar.

The Barcelona star is at the centre of negotiations for a world record transfer to French giants Paris St-Germain.

But Chelsea were scared off the deal by the sky-hugh £196m buy-out clause in his Barca contract.

A source close to the talks said: "Chelsea always was an option."
