Asensio the favourite to take James Rodriguez's throne

Following the departure of James Rodriguez, Marco Asensio is the man fans now want to wear the famous No. 10 jersey.

The Colombian playmaker left the club on Tuesday, completing a loan move to Bayern Munich on a two-year deal.

That has led to speculation about who will now take up the mantle of wearing his vacant number, with MARCA readers voting in their numbers for Asensio to be the man to do so.

He collected more votes than the likes of Luka Modric (25 percent), Isco (24 percent), Dani Ceballos or even a possible Galactico signing.

The Spaniard was impressive last season in what was a breakout year for him, taking just 20 minutes in the UEFA Super Cup to show what he can do.

That missile beyond Sevilla's Sergio Rico set the tone for the season as he scored on his LaLiga debut, his Champions League debut, and in the Copa del Rey.

Asensio saved the best for the end of the campaign, netting Champions League goals against Bayern Munich in the quarter-final and Juventus in the final itself.

There has perhaps not been a more exciting youngster to emerge at the club since Raul, with both winning the league in their first season and picking up a Champions League winners' medal before they blew out 21 candles on their birthday cake.

Relegating Rodriguez, a 75 million euros signing, advertising icon and a licence to sell shirts in an important Latin American market, to outsider status is certainly no mean feat.

Asensio's future at the club looks very bright, the kind of No. 10 that Los Blancos could count upon for many years to come.
