Paris Saint Germain vs Caen - Emery: PSG will bounce back from title disappointment

Unai Emery is determined to see Paris St Germain get stronger following the disappointment of missing out on the Ligue 1 title to rivals Monaco.

A fifth straight crown proved beyond reach this season as Leonardo Jardim's Monaco, who also reached the semi-finals of the Champions League, beat St Etienne on Wednesday to take the trophy to the principality for the first time since 2000.

While Emery accepts Monaco are deserved winners, the Spaniard is focused on quickly getting PSG back to the top again.

"Congratulations to Monaco for a great season. They have been consistent and deserve to be champions. We could not do it," Emery said at a press conference ahead of the meeting with Caen.

"The points we have are enough points to be crowned champions, but another team did better.

"We have other objectives, such to finish the championship without losing at home and we will use what happened this season to make progress in the future."

Emery has some selection issues to contend with ahead of Saturday's game.

Defender Thomas Meunier had an ankle operation in Qatar this week and fellow full-back Layvin Kurzawa is recovering from groin surgery, while youngsters Christopher Nkunku and Jean-Kevin Augustin are in South Korea with the France squad for the Under-20 World Cup.

Thiago Motta is available again after suspension but has not trained, Grzegorz Krychowiak is set to feature for the reserves instead after he returns to fitness and midfielder Marco Verratti is also likely to miss out he carries a knock.

Angel Di Maria, though, should feature following his ban.

Caen will be looking for a shock win to secure their top-flight status, as they are one of five sides in danger and just a point clear of Lorient.

Coach Patrice Garande said: "The season isn't over. This is another game where anything can happen

"We are going to Paris, Lorient host Bordeaux, Bastia go to Marseille - there are still 90 minutes left on those pitches."
