Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho has conceded "something went wrong" at the Etihad Stadium this season.
Pep Guardiola's side were expected to challenge for the Premier League title but tailed off as they look to consolidate third spot.

A string of poor results ultimately sealed their fate as the Brazi international looks back on their campaign.

"This season has been tough for us, something went wrong. But at the end we still have a chance to go into the Champions League and I'm sure we can improve next season," Fernandinho said, as reported by talkSPORT.

"[Guardiola] has his own philosophy and we have proved already we are able to do what he wants. We are trying to improve week by week, training session by training session.

"I'm sure we are improving, for the next two games and for next season as well. Our target, our goal, is to win the next two games. Especially the next one at home in front of our own fans because I think they deserve it."

City began the season with intent, winning their opening six fixtures, before suffering a defeat away to Tottenham Hotspur.

They would lose a further five times, as well as accumulating nine draws, which currently leaves them third in the Premier League table.

Next up for City is a visit from West Bromwich Albion before travelling to Watford on 21st May to end Guardiola's first season in English football.
