Forfar struck back with two late goals to remain in with a chance of promotion after a 2-2 Scottish League One play-off first-leg draw against Annan at Galabank.
The home side got off to a flying start and were two goals to the good within 16 minutes.
Peter Weatherson headed home Aidan Smith's cross at the near post to hand the Black and Golds the lead after just four minutes.
The provider turned scorer 12 minutes later, after Forfar goalkeeper Grant Adam brought the Queen of the South loanee down in the penalty box - Smith's spot-kick was saved but the 19-year-old fired home the rebound to double the lead.
The visitors fought back with two goals late on, though.
Michael Travis pulled one back with a close-range header after 81 minutes and, moments later, Martyn Fotheringham equalised by firing a free-kick into the top-right corner to leave it level ahead of Saturday's return leg at Station Park.
