Mesut Ozil’s father deactivated the player’s Twitter account after bust-up

Mesut Ozil's father deleted the star's Twitter account after the German international left Real Madrid for Arsenal.

That's according to the latest extract from Ozil's autobiography titled Die Magie des Spiels (The Magic of the Game), which is being serialised by German newspaper Bild.

The Arsenal star reveals that he never had any intention of leaving the La Liga side in 2013, until his father – who also represented him at the time – fell out with president Florentino Perez during contract talks.

Ozil says: "Nobody expected that a change of clubs was due.

"My father and I both had the goal to prolong this success story at the Blancos by a few years and finally also win the Champions League.

"It wasn't about greed. It was only about an adequate salary. And that didn't reflect in Real's first offer."

The Germany international goes onto explain how his father misjudged the experience and cool head needed when dealing with contract negotiations.

He said: "He did not have the experience of a dozen negotiations with big club bosses, and that's why he, to be honest, lacked the serenity to adequately deal with such a provoking offer."

The 28-year-old says the moment his father stormed out of contract negotiations with Perez was when he realised things were going bad for him at the club.

"It was certainly not right to leave the office fuming mad, and slamming the door to Perez's business room with a bang," he said.

"I couldn't envisage that it could have consequences for me.

"But I fell out of favour with the club bosses despite not doing anything. I feared being sat in the stands. And suddenly I needed to act for my career. To no longer play at all was no question for me."

With the playmaker's career stagnating, he decided to take action by contacting Arsene Wenger.

Ozil still had the Arsenal manager's phone number from when he tried to sign him in 2010 and decided to give him a call.

"Even though it wasn't easy for me at the start, I dialled a number I had in my cell since 2010," Ozil wrote.

"'Mr. Wenger,' I said. 'I promised to contact you first if there would be the opportunity that I am looking for a new club. It's here now.'

"The transfer from Real Madrid to Arsenal was the most difficult decision of my career."

His decision to leave for the Premier League led to him falling out with his father.

"It was shortly before my 25th birthday that I told him of my decision to no longer be represented by him," he added.

"He was angry and felt aggrieved. He even deleted my Twitter account as an administrator and I lost millions of followers.

"It is a sad chapter in a very long and respectful father-son relationship, which is the basis for what I achieved as a football player."
