Bournemouth Players Told To Wear Orange Glasses And We're All Confused

As they look to retain their Premier League status for another season, Bournemouth are trying out some rather strange methods.

As football and technology has developed and advanced over the years, pre-match preparations have changed dramatically. Back in the day, Manchester United legend Bryan Robson would guzzle 10 pints on a Friday night and still be the best player on the pitch when it was game-time on Saturday.

But Bournemouth are taking a much different approach as far as preparations the night before go.

That's because The Cherries have instructed their players to wear special orange glasses. Known as 'SleepSec' technology, the glasses are supposed to help you get a nice, easy sleep because it has been designed to get rid of blue lights that come on electrical devices such as laptops, TVs and phones.

It's all a bit scientific, but the idea is that if they wear these glasses and channel their inner Edgar Davids, Bournemouth players will be able to chill out the night before a game and go on the devices and consoles without it damaging their preparation.

That's what Bournemouth's head of medicine Dr Craig Roberts thinks anyway.

Eddie Howe has approved the use of the glasses and commented on them in his press conference yesterday.

He said:

"I don't want to sound like a scientist here. Basically we are looking at all aspects of trying to improve our players' performance - sleep being one of those things that is probably an underrated recovery tool really.

"It is so important that players get a good night's sleep, so the orange specs are used before [they] go to bed to cut out the white light going into their eyes and brains, hopefully to give them a better night's sleep.

"I have tried them. It is something you've got to wear and use for a long period of time. I've been wearing them consistently and I feel a lot better.

"It's something we are looking to improve... trying to make sure our players are fresher than our opponents going into games."

It looked like the glasses had been working their magic when Bournemouth took the lead early on against West Brom, but goals from Craig Dawson and Gareth McAuley means Eddie Howe's side are behind at the break.

Will your Sunday League team be giving them a go?
