David Moyes goes all the way to Falkirk to watch a substitute

With Sunderland currently sitting rock bottom of the Premier League you can't blame David Moyes for going above and beyond the call of duty.

While most of us were nursing hangovers, or sitting in front of our TVs watching Trisha, Moyes used his Saturday to do some first-hand scouting.

According to Sky Sports the former Man United boss went all the way to Falkirk, north of Edinburgh and Glasgow, to watch left-back Tony Gallacher in action against St Mirren.

The 17-year-old has caught the eye of Man United and Barcelona since breaking into Falkirk's first-team this season.

And with Patrick van Aanholt leaving to join Crystal Palace Sunderland are in need of a new left-back, so so far everything makes sense.

But when Moyes got to the Falkirk Stadium and looked at the line-ups he would have got that sinking feeling.

Unfortunately for Moyseh Gallacher was left out of the Falkirk XI and had to make do with a place on the bench.

By our calculations it's a three hour drive from Sunderland to Falkirk on a good day, just under three hours on a train and, if Moyes was really going for it, a 15 hour cycle.

It wasn't a complete waste of time though. John Baird put Falkirk ahead in the 11th minute, so at least Moyes got to see some goals.

Come to think of it, a 31-year-old former Queen of the South, Raith Rovers and Partick Thistle journeyman sounds right up Sunderland's alley.

He can't be much worse than Fabio Borini.
