Swindon vs Southend United - Nathan Thompson a doubt as Swindon host Southend

Swindon will check on skipper Nathan Thompson ahead of the visit of Southend.

The defender had to go off during the first half of Town's 3-2 defeat to MK Dons with a foot injury but boss Luke Williams is hopeful he will be fit.

James Brophy returned to the squad following a hamstring problem and came on for Thompson, so he could start if the captain is ruled out.

Midfielder Ellis Iandolo and forward Jordan Stewart are set to miss out again through injury.

Southend winger Stephen McLaughlin went off during the closing stages of the 1-1 draw against Charlton on New Year's Eve with ankle ligament damage and looks set for a spell on the sidelines.

Forward Simon Cox (groin) will be assessed, along with goalkeeper Ted Smith who played despite illness as he deputised again for the injured Mark Oxley (elbow).

Striker Nile Ranger, who had been carrying a groin injury, came off the bench against the Addicks, so could be back in contention to start.

Dave Mooney and Ben Coker (both ankle) remain on the sidelines alongside on-loan Crystal Palace defender Ryan Inniss, who is out after needing shoulder surgery.
