Man Utd Fans Donate Money Raised by Chapecoense Flag Fund To Victims' Families

Manchester United fans have managed to raise over £1300 for the families of the victims involved in the Chapecoense plane crash earlier this week.

Seventy-one people died in Monday's crash outside Medellin where the Brazilian team was due to play, with six surviving, and the tragic accident prompted an outpouring of tributes from other football teams around the globe.

During Wednesday night's EFL Cup tie at home to West Ham, Manchester United fans were seen sporting a sizeable Chapecoense flag in the Old Trafford stands and it now transpires that creating the flag has actually generated money for the bereaved families.

Lifelong United fan Carl Jackson came up with the idea for the flag and appealed for donations on Facebook, which triggered offers from fans all over the world.

Jackson is quoted as saying: "At the moment the total stands at just over £1,300, but we're aware that this might grow.

"It's caught us by surprise to be honest. I wasn't expecting the kind of response we've had, but we want to send the money we've raised over to Chapecoense to help the families of those involved."

Carl goes to pretty much every United match ad will be taking the flag to United's game at Everton on Sunday as well as their game against Zorya Luhansk in Ukraine on Thursday in the Europa League.

The power of social media, eh? Well played, Carl. Well played.
