Zidane: Real Madrid are extremely saddened by the Chapecoense tragedy

Following the tragic Chapecoense plane crash in Colombia, Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane has expressed his sympathy for those involved.

The Brazilian side were travelling to Medellin to face Atletico Nacional in the first leg of their Copa Sudamericana final.

However, a tragic crash in the vicinity of Medellin has killed 75 of the travelling party, with just six survivors confirmed at present.

"Before we begin, I want to send my support and that of the entire club to the relatives and friends of those killed in the crash in Colombia," Zidane said, addressing the media ahead of his side's Copa del Rey clash against Cultural Leonesa.

"We extend our sympathy to Chapecoense as a club and all of their fans. We feel extremely saddened by what has happened."

The Los Blancos coach acknowledged that it was a tragedy which would undoubtedly impact upon people all over the world.

"It is a tragedy that is so complicated and difficult to face up to," he added.

"We are all so sad about it and I again want to said my condolences to all of the family and friends, on behalf of the club."
