Luke Shaw: I want Jose Mourinho to trust me at Manchester United

Luke Shaw revealed his immediate goal at Manchester United following a tough start to the season, admitting he wants Jose Mourinho to “trust” him.

Shaw made his return to first-team action over the summer after suffering a broken leg last season, looking to re-establish himself in United’s back-line. He was in excellent form prior to the injury, performing to the levels that made him a wanted man at Southampton two years ago.

However the 21-year-old has endured a stop-start campaign thus far, with Mourinho still searching for his best XI over two months into the season. That uncertainty appears to have affected United’s form, as they’ve won just one of their last seven Premier League games, losing ground on the clubs above them.

With that in mind, Shaw has opened up on his current situation at Old Trafford, hoping to gain the Portuguese’s trust as soon as possible.

"I can take criticism,” the left-back told Sky Sports. “The manager only wants to make me play better and I want to prove to him that he can trust me. I’ve felt fitter and stronger, in the last game especially, and I just want to keep improving and keep helping the team as much as possible.

"There was no disagreement from me on what was said by the manager in our talks and he knows what he’s talking about. I need to take that on board and do what he wants me to do.”
