Henrikh Mkhitaryan's Manchester United career reaches new low

First it was Bastian Schweinsteiger and now it's Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The Armenia international arrived at Old Trafford this summer with high expectations, after an outstanding season with Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga.

However, his £26 million move from the Westfalenstadion has quickly turned sour and is facing not too dissimilar treatment to that being handed out to Schweinsteiger.

The former Germany international has fallen so far down the pecking order at Old Trafford that Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho will not even allow the midfielder to feature for the reserves.

But it hasn't got that bad just yet for Mkhitaryan, who has started one game for the Portuguese this season - in United's 2-1 Premier League loss to local rivals Manchester City.

The 27-year-old has not been seen in the United team since and has been banished to the stands, having failed to make Mourinho's match-day squads in recent matches - including for Saturday's goalless draw at home to Burnley.

And, as per the Daily Mail, Mkhitaryan's United nightmare has took another turn for the worst, with the former Dortmund winger being forced to train alone on Sunday, while the rest of United's squad took the day off.

EXTRA SESSIONS

Mkhitaryan was pictured leaving the club's Carrington training ground in his white Lamborghini, after putting in extra sessions in a bid to improve his chances of breaking his way back into Mourinho's plans.

The Armenian had been struggling with a lingering thigh injury in recent months, but was declared fit ahead of United's Europa League tie against Feyenoord in the middle of last month.

But Mourinho has remained upbeat about Mkhitaryan's future, despite there already being suggestions of an early January exit for the winger.

MOURINHO HAS BELIEF

"We believe in him and of course we believe that sooner or later there will be no problem." Mourinho said earlier in the week.

"But Mkhi needs time to become the top player he can be. With some players, their profile is adapted to come and play."

Former Real Madrid star Angel Di Maria was another United winger who left the club after just one season, in 2015, but Mkhitaryan is hopeful that his career doesn't follow suit, despite Mourinho's recent comparisons between the pair.

However, while Schweinsteiger's United career looks all but over, there remains to be hope that Mkhitaryan can deliver when eventually called upon by Mourinho.

The Armenian signed a four-year contract on his arrival and will be doing everything within his power to ensure his Red Devils career does not follow the path that his German teammate's has taken.
