Augsburg 1 - 3 Bayern Munich: Robert Lewandowski scores twice as Bayern Munich comfortably beat Augsburg

Bayern Munich beat Augsburg for the second time in four days with Robert Lewandowski on target twice in another 3-1 win.

Carlo Ancelotti's men knocked their Bavarian rivals out of the DFB-Pokal on Wednesday and they needed little over 45 minutes to see them off once again with Lewandowski and Arjen Robben exchanging goals and assists.

Koo Ja-cheol grabbed a consolation in the second half but that was all it was as Bayern beat their opponents comfortably.

The first shot of the game came from an unlikely source, Augsburg captain and full-back Paul Verhaegh, but Manuel Neuer saw off the threat.

After Augsburg wasted a good chance on the counter-attack, Bayern raced down the other end of the field with Robben's pass finding Lewandowski, who needed just two touches to put Bayern in front in the 20th minute.

The same two combined just a minute later and although Lewandowski's shot was blocked this time, the action continued with the Pole pulling the rebound back for Robben to double the visitors' lead.

Bayern lost Javi Martinez to injury half an hour in, but with Mats Hummels taking his place, the Bavarians' defence was hardly weakened.

Xabi Alonso gifted Koo the chance to equalise on the stroke of half-time but the South Korean's low shot was still too close to Neuer to cause any danger.

The game was effectively over just three minutes into the second half when Lewandowski scored his second of the game with Robben once gain the provider for the Poland international, who skipped past Marwin Hitz and stroked the ball into the unguarded goal.

Lewandowski was denied a hat-trick by Hitz before Ancelotti replaced his other central defender, giving Holger Badstuber his first league outing since February.

Koo reduced the arrears minutes later with Bayern's defence suddenly looking a little disorganised, and Badstuber at fault for leaving the Korean unmarked to score at the far post.

Hitz made two instinctive saves to deny Hummels and keep the scoreline respectable.
