Rumour: Barcelona target Liverpool’s Nathaniel Clyne in pursuit of new right-back

Barcelona are reportedly tracking the progress of Liverpool defender Nathaniel Clyne as they target a right-back in the upcoming transfer market.

The departure of Dani Alves this past summer has left a gap in the Catalan club's defence, which has so far not been sufficiently filled by Sergi Roberto or Aleix Vidal.

And now the Express claim Barcelona manager Luis Enrique will look into the possibility of signing Clyne, who has become a regular starter at Anfield since his move from Southampton last year.

Clyne, who earns £90,000-a-week (via Express), has won 59% of his tackles this season, while he's also created 14 chances, registering one assist.

Although Roberto has performed well in the position, he is nominally a midfielder, a position Enrique wants to use him in rather than as a makeshift right-back.

Meanwhile, Vidal has failed to live up to the hype surrounding his transfer to the Spanish giants from Sevilla in the summer of 2015, with recent reports suggesting he has fallen out with Enrique.

Former Liverpool man Javier Mascherano has also filled in the spot when called upon, starting their recent Champions League clash with Manchester City in the position.

Glen Johnson, Stephan Lichtsteiner and Darijo Srna have also been linked to the La Liga champions, who are searching for a cut-price deal.
