Pep Guardiola ready to rescue Chelsea misfit in £20m swoop in January

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is reportedly set to make a £20m move to try and sign Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas in January.

The 29-year-old has struggled for playing time under Antonio Conte so far this season, making just six appearances in all competitions with a total of just 297 minutes on the pitch.

Fabregas has still managed two goals and two assists in that time, but ultimately it isn't enough for him as he continues to sit on the bench as a bit-part player for Conte.

According to The Sun, Guardiola could be about to rescue him from his Stamford Bridge misery as he eyes a move for his fellow Spaniard in the January transfer window.

It's claimed that the City boss is concerned over a lack of creativity in his side after going four games without a win, and believes that Fabregas could be the answer to replace Fernandinho in the team.

It wouldn't be the first time that Guardiola has signed his compatriot having taken him from Arsenal to Barcelona in 2011, with Fabregas scoring 20 goals and providing 15 assists that season as he played his part in helping the Spanish giants win four trophies that year.

In turn, Guardiola knows all about what he would add to his squad, and is said to be willing to offer him favourable terms in order to convince him to move to Manchester.

The Sun claim that they will improve his current £160,000-a-week wages and offer him a future at sister club New York City FC, but firstly, it remains to be seen if £20m is enough to convince Conte to give the sale the green light.

It would seem like a sensible move from City and Fabregas, but it's questionable as to whether Chelsea would be making the right move handing him over to a direct rival having already seen the midfielder turn AC Milan and Juventus down in the summer, as noted in the report.
