Bayern Munich 2 - 0 Monchengladbach: Carlo Ancelotti purrs after Bayern Munich cut down Borussia Monchengladbach

Bayern Munich coach Carlo Ancelotti claimed his side had delivered their best half of the season on their way to beating Borussia Monchengladbach 2-0 on Saturday.

Goals from Arturo Vidal and Douglas Costa did the damage inside the first 45 minutes, which the Italian said were the best he had seen since taking charge of the defending Bundesliga champions in the summer.

"It was a really good performance with high intensity - the best half of the season," Ancelotti said at the post-match press conference.

"I'm very happy with it. The second half wasn't as good as the first, but we still had good control and a good balance and defended well."

That opening 45 minutes were enough for Bayern to underline why they are seeking a fifth straight Bundesliga title this season.

"It was pretty clear in the first half," admitted Gladbach coach Andre Schubert, whose team have now gone three Bundesliga games without a win.

"We couldn't win any tackles - they dominated us in the first half.

"We weren't able to hold our own, physically or mentally, and we weren't aggressive enough.

"The second half was better, but then Bayern left us the ball a bit. Overall it was a deserved win for Bayern."

Gladbach midfielder Christoph Kramer blamed the exertions of beating Celtic in the Champions League in midweek on his side's inability to match Bayern.

"It's particularly hard still to be fresh after a midweek game and we didn't manage this at all," said the Germany international.

"That was quite frustrating at times. It's a pity that we started so badly - if only we had played in the first half the way we did in the half, then maybe we could have got something.

"But overall, it was too little from us and that's why we've deserved to lose at the end of the day."

Gladbach had been unbeaten against Bayern in their last four appearances, but Saturday's defeat leaves them 10th in the Bundesliga, nine points behind Bayern after eight matches.
