Manchester City are challenging Manchester United's interest in Monaco fullback Fabinho.
The Sun says Pep Guardiola is ready to go head-to-head with Jose Mourinho for one of the planet's top right backs as he seeks to shore up Manchester City's ailing defence.
Mourinho asked Manchester United to sign Fabinho in the summer, only for a deal to fall through because the Old Trafford club were unable to offload Matteo Darmian.
Mourinho still wants the 22-year-old Brazil international to strengthen a back four that has slowed United's progress in his first season at the club.
Though Monaco tied Fabinho to a new five-year contract last month the Ligue 1 club are open to selling the versatile Brazilian for the right offer and would welcome a Guardiola-Mourinho bidding war.
