Will the Real Madrid star be forced to apologise?
Cristiano Ronaldo often starts his day by uploading a picture on social media with the tagline 'Bom dia', meaning 'Good morning'.
On Thursday Ronaldo's picture involved the football placing his right foot on a border surrounding a large Buddha statue.
Giving the footballer the benefit of the doubt, it seems clear Ronaldo wasn't uploading the image to offend anybody.
And yet, that's exactly what's happened as Buddhists have reacted badly to Ronaldo social media update.
'No respect'
Literally thousands of people have reacted negatively to Ronaldo's picture on Facebook.
Comments on the social network have accused Cristiano of lacking respect and manners.
Ronaldo's new social media manager
Interestingly, this week it was announced that Ronaldo had hired the daughter of his agent Jorge Mendes, Melisa Mendes, to take charge of all his social media accounts.
So was this update actually her fault?
