Borussia Dortmund vs Hertha BSC Berlin - Dardai unhappy with Tuchel remarks on referees

Hertha Berlin coach Pal Dardai claims Thomas Tuchel has exerted unnecessary pressure on referees with his remarks that his team are on the receiving end of too many fouls.

Tuchel complained after his side went down 2-0 at Bayer Leverkusen a fortnight ago about the rough treatment Dortmund had been given, saying it was already the third time this season that over 20 fouls were committed on his players and adding that Leverkusen were lucky not to have at least one player sent off.

Dardai's Hertha travel to Dortmund on Friday night and the Hungarian coach is now concerned that the referee might be influenced by Tuchel's comments.

"It's unfair towards referees and puts pressure on them," he said at a press conference. "We are the second fairest team in the league, but if we get a yellow card after just two or three fouls, then I'm going to run to the fourth official and complain about Tuchel's comments.

"It's all well and good being friendly before and after the game, but this is a man's game and I think Tuchel's comments are very borderline."

Sitting next to Dardai was Hertha's director of sport Michael Preetz, who labelled Tuchel a bad loser for seeking to blame with the referee rather than his own side for their second loss of the season.

"I had the impression that Leverkusen deserved to win," he said. "Maybe Tuchel just wanted to distract people from that.

"We also had no chance in Munich, but we admitted that. You've just got to accept when your opponents are better than you."

Preetz and Dardai will both be hoping that their team prove to be better on the field at the Westfalenstadion on Friday night as the second-placed Old Lady travel to third-placed Dortmund.

A win for Hertha would take them level on points with Bayern at the top of the standings, at least for a night, and their chances are boosted by a growing Dortmund injury crisis following the international break.

Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Lukasz Piszczek, Raphael Guerreiro and Ousmane Dembele have all returned with knocks which could rule them out on Friday night.

Marco Reus is also still unavailable due to a groin injury which has already sidelined him for over four months, although he is now back in training.

Marc Bartra is also doubtful for the Westphalians, who will also have one eye on their Champions League trip to Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday.

Hertha have no European distractions having been eliminated from the Europa League in the qualifying rounds.

"Our aim is to keep ahead of Dortmund," added Dardai.
