Bayern Munich vs Koln - Cologne confident of springing Bayern Munich surprise

Cologne coach Peter Stoger watched Bayern Munich's 1-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday with interest as he plots to do the same as Diego Simeone when he takes his team to Munich this Saturday.

Bayern's eight-game winning start to the season in all competitions was brought to an end by Simeone's team in midweek and Stoger is hoping to bring an end to their perfect beginning to the Bundesliga season this weekend.

Having seen Atletico in action, he now knows how it can be done, although he admitted he does not have the same players at his disposal as his coaching colleague.

"You can certainly learn a lot from Atletico, but the question is whether you can put it into practice yourself," Stoger said at a press conference.

"The Spaniards deliver the finest art of defending. It's going to be an incredibly difficult game for us, but we want to try to be successful with our own ideas and our qualities."

Seven and a half thousand travelling fans will descend upon the Allianz Arena in a bid to play their part in what Stoger hopes will be a first in the Bundesliga this season.

"Five Bundesliga clubs have tried and failed to get a point off Bayern," he said.

"But that doesn't mean we go there already beaten. It's going to be tough, but we're not on a bad run of form ourselves."

Bayern coach Carlo Ancelotti was critical of Jerome Boateng after his mistake led to Atletico's winner on Wednesday and he may leave the Germany international on the bench this Saturday.

He is not short of options in that area of the field, though.

"It is the most difficult part of my job, always having to leave somebody on the bench," said the Italian, who has Javier Martinez and Mats Hummels as alternatives and Holger Badstuber on the road to recovery.

Arturo Vidal is also a doubt for the champions, who have a three-point advantage over Borussia Dortmund at the top of the table, with Cologne just one point further back.
