The Gunners earmarked the Real Madrid striker as a target during the summer window, as doubts surfaced over Olivier Giroud, although Arsene Wenger ended up spending £17m on Deportivo La Coruna’s Lucas Perez.
Chelsea also monitored his progress, as Antonio Conte sought to beef up his attack, but instead splashed £33m on Michy Batshuayi.
However, Spanish news outlet Don Balon claim both Premier League powerhouses will keep an eye on Morata.
It is thought they could be persuaded to make a bid should the Spain international decides his future lies away from the Bernabeu.
Although Real activated Morata’s buy-back clause to re-sign him from Juventus, he is behind Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale in the pecking order.
Morata revealed earlier this month Chelsea made a serious offer for his services in the summer.
Alvaro Morata was the subject of serious interest from Arsenal and Chelsea in the summer
"Chelsea showed the most interest," he told German paper Sport Bild.
"Antonio Conte had already signed me for Juventus.
"And it was a very good offer this time. I would have been the most expensive Spanish player ever."
