Villarreal 3 - 1 Osasuna: Villarreal up to fourth in LaLiga after easing to victory over Osasuna

Villarreal moved up to fourth place in LaLiga with a 3-1 win over Osasuna at El Madrigal as the team continues to flourish under Fran Escriba.

The Yellow Submarine are one of only three teams in the league still unbeaten after six matches and stormed out of the blocks with three first-half goals.

Alexandre Pato headed the first, Bruno Soriano scored the second from the penalty spot and a sublime chip from Nicola Sansone killed off the visitors, who pulled one back through Roberto Torres' penalty on the stroke of half-time.

The only negative note for Escriba was how his side tailed off in the second period, but essentially they had done the job in the first 45 minutes.

The hosts made an ideal start when Pato headed home Samu Castillejo's right-wing cross from close range in the fifth minute and 20 minutes later they added a second.

Osasuna were defensively at sixes and sevens and as Roberto Soriano tried to take the ball round visiting goalkeeper Mario he was fouled.

Bruno, fresh from scoring with a Panenka-style penalty at the Bernabeu in midweek, was oozing confidence and calmly side-footed home his spot-kick.

The game was effectively over as a contest with six minutes of the first half remaining when Castillejo and Pato linked up well on the edge of the Osasuna box, with the former slotting a clever through-ball into the path of Sansone.

The Italy international saw Mario rushing out and beat him all ends up with a delicate chip.

The Pamplona side pulled one back on the stroke of half-time after a jinking run into the area from the left touchline by Sergio Leon ended with him being tripped by Alvaro Gonzalez. Torres made no mistake from the penalty spot.

Manu Trigueros curled a shot over the top on the hour mark and then headed over after Jonathan Dos Santos' clever disguised cross.

Osasuna came back into the contest but were unable to get the second goal that might have made Villarreal wobble, with Emmanuel Riviere unable to make enough contact on a glancing header from a Juan Rafael Fuentes cross with 10 minutes to go.

The newly-promoted side will end round six bottom of the league, with only two points to their name.
