US Sassuolo Calcio 1 - 0 Udinese: Gregoire Defrel's goal the difference for Sassuolo
Posted Monday, September 26, 2016 by PA
Gregoire Defrel struck the only goal of the game to clinch Sassuolo a 1-0 home win against Udinese and lift them into Serie A's top 10.
French forward Defrel, who pounced from close range nine minutes before half-time, has now scored in each of Sassuolo's last four matches, while Udinese, who hit the crossbar in the final minute, slipped to their third league defeat of the season.
Luca Antei and Matteo Politano both threatened to give Sassuolo the lead before Defrel despatched Pol Lirola's ball in across the face of goal in the 34th minute.
Udinese failed to create a goalscoring chance in the first period, but substitute Stipe Perica forced fine saves from Sassuolo goalkeeper Andrea Consigli in the closing stages, either side of defender Felipe's 90th-minute header which struck the crossbar.
