Sunderland vs Crystal Palace - David Moyes has words with Patrick van Aanholt after shisha pipe pictures

Adnan Januzaj returns to the Sunderland squad after suspension for Saturday's Premier League clash with Crystal Palace.

The Manchester United loanee is available after sitting out the 2-1 EFL Cup third round victory at QPR in midweek following his red card at Tottenham, and he will be joined by fellow midfielder Jack Rodwell and striker Jermain Defoe following their respective recoveries from groin and calf injuries.

Midfielder Wahbi Khazri has recovered from illness and frontman Victor Anichebe is close to being available as he works his way towards match fitness, but keeper Vito Mannone (elbow), midfielder Sebastian Larsson (knee) and striker Fabio Borini (groin) are still out.

Sunderland boss David Moyes, meanwhile, was "not impressed" after defender Patrick van Aanholt was photographed apparently smoking a shisha pipe.

The 26-year-old Dutchman woke on Friday morning to see the pictures in a national newspaper just days after he was withdrawn from the team to face Tottenham because of a heart scare.

Moyes was less than impressed and has spoken to the player about his off-the-field activities, and while the incident took place during the closed-season, he is not expecting a repeat.

The Scot said: "I don't expect a player to do that, I don't expect a player playing for me to do that. I have had a word with him. I am not impressed.

"But I have got to also say it's a picture that comes out maybe six weeks ago, it was in his off-time, it wasn't during the season.

"But just let me make sure, in no way do I condone it at all."

Crystal Palace are without captain Scott Dann for Saturday's Premier League fixture at Sunderland after he suffered a minor hamstring injury in the EFL Cup defeat at Southampton.

He also remains a doubt for next Friday's match with Everton, but James Tomkins has been passed fit and will replace him alongside Damien Delaney in central defence. Alan Pardew will also name Delaney as captain.

Beyond that, the manager is expected to revert to much of the team that last week defeated Stoke 4-1, instead of retaining those who lost at Southampton.

Pardew spoke of his appreciation for the size of the task facing Sunderland's David Moyes, and believes the "fantastic" manager should only be judged on his long-term impact there.

"David Moyes is a fantastic manager. His record at Everton is the best of any (active) British manager, probably, and he deserves respect for that.

"He's trying to find a new club, trying to find his way, and it takes time, and the pressure heaped on managers when they haven't got a win is becoming bigger and more intense every season."
