Mainz moved into the top half of the Bundesliga on Sunday thanks to their first win of the season, 3-1 in Augsburg.
The visitors took the lead in the seventh minute when Jhon Cordoba headed in Yunus Malli's cross unchallenged.
Augsburg went close to an equaliser several times in the second half, with Jonas Lossl making excellent saves from Ji Dong-won and Martin Hinteregger before Dominik Kohr sent an effort over.
The hosts got a deserved equaliser in the 73rd minute when Kostantinos Stafylidis' long-range effort beat Lossl, but Malli headed Mainz back in front within two minutes, cutting Augsburg's celebrations short.
Yoshinori Muto killed off Augsburg's hopes as he added a third, although a red card for Jose Rodriguez in added time took some gloss off the win.
