Borussia Dortmund 6 - 0 Darmstadt: Borussia Dortmund smash six again

Borussia Dortmund claimed their second successive 6-0 win of the week as Darmstadt were dispatched in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

Gonzalo Castro gave Thomas Tuchel's men an early lead and two goals early in the second half from Adrian Ramos and Christian Pulisic effectively ended any hopes Darmstadt had of picking something up at the Westfalenstadion.

The visitors ended the game with 10 men when their captain Peter Niemeyer picked up a second yellow card with over half an hour left and further goals from Castro, Sebastian Rode and Emre Mor completed the scoring.

Dortmund beat Legia Warsaw 6-0 in the Champions League in midweek and provided another example of their quality to put last weekend's 1-0 defeat to Leipzig squarely behind them.

They were ahead after just seven minutes when Ousmane Dembele sent the ball in for Castro to score from 10 yards out.

Dortmund could, and perhaps should, have had two goals before half-time with Sokratis Papastathopoulos creating danger and Raphael Guerreiro also testing Darmstadt goalkeeper Michael Esser.

Darmstadt's resistance was broken again just three minutes into the second half, though, when Ramos was on hand to turn in a loose ball from close range after Esser failed to keep hold of Guerreiro's shot.

Darmstadt responded with their first mentionable attack of the game, but Dortmund turned the screw with Pulisic putting them three goals to the good in the 54th minute.

Marcel Schmelzer's cross was deflected back out to Pulisic, who marked his first Bundesliga appearance of the season with his first goal, adding it to his goal for the United States during the recent international break.

Any hopes Darmstadt had of recovering were effectively ended three minutes later when Niemeyer was shown a second yellow card for a foul on Ramos.

Dortmund initially appeared to show them some mercy, but three more goals in 10 minutes showed a more ruthless edge.

Castro added the fourth in the 78th minute with a neat backheeled finish from Pulisic's pass.

The Germany international then turned provider for Sebastian Rode to score in similar style before Mor opened his Dortmund account two minutes from time, taking down Pulisic's cross before providing the finish.
