Aiden McGeady will come into Preston's squad for the Championship clash against Barnsley.

The Republic of Ireland international winger signed for North End on deadline day and boss Simon Grayson has hinted he could be involved straight away despite only linking up with his new team-mates on Thursday.

Defenders Alex Baptiste and Marnick Vermijl have also been added to Grayson's squad during the international break, with the latter returning after a spell last term.

Stevie May, who is back doing some light running, and Calum Woods remain out due to knee injuries, while Jermaine Beckford (hamstring), Bailey Wright (toe) and Ben Pringle (foot) will all be assessed.

Barnsley could include new signings Adam Jackson, Cole Kpekawa, Adam Armstrong, Sam Morsy and Saidy Janko in their squad.

Centre-half Jackson and left-back Kpekawa both signed permanent deals before the transfer window closed, while striker Armstrong (Newcastle), midfielder Morsy (Wigan) and winger Janko (Celtic) all joined on loan.

Morsy and Janko will train with the squad on Friday having both returned unscathed from international duty with Egypt and Switzerland respectively.

Striker Stefan Payne fractured a bone in his foot during the 4-0 home win against Rotherham last time out and will be sidelined for up to 12 weeks and winger Ryan Williams (groin) and midfielder Sessi D'Almeida (knee) are long-term absentees.
