Tottenham line up late move for Real Madrid's Isco

Mauricio Pochettino has already brought in two substantial signings this summer, following the arrivals of Vincent Janssen from AZ Alkmaar and Victor Wanyama from Southampton. But with Champions League football around the corner, the Argentine is not done just yet.

It is the Argentine's first experience of Champions League football with Spurs, and he is well aware that he needs to add strength and depth to his squad, if the north Londoners are to progress into the latter stages of the competition.

And the news being reported by The Mirror claims that Tottenham are set to make a late £25 million bid for Real Madrid midfielder, Isco.

The highly-regarded attacking midfielder could be axed this summer, as Los Blancos look to trim their oversized squad, with either the 24-year-old or James Rodriguez set to be allowed to depart the Santiago Bernabeu.

It is understood that Florentino Perez would prefer for James to stay put, after recently rejecting Chelsea's attempts to take the Colombian on loan, making way for Spurs to pursue the Spain midfielder.

But the fact that Tottenham's bitter rivals are still after James could have a detrimental effect on Pochettino acquiring Isco, who would suit the Spurs boss' style of play.

The north Londoners want to take the Spain international on an initial loan deal, with the view to a permanent transfer, just three years after he joined Real for £25 million from Malaga.

ISCO ALTERNATIVE TO JAMES

However, Chelsea are understood to be considering Isco, also, as an alternative to James, if they can't agree a deal for the Colombian. But Tottenham and Real Madrid's close relationship, following the Spanish club's marquee signings of Gareth Bale and Luka Modric, could sway a deal for Isco in Spurs' favour.

The Spaniard would add much-needed Champions League experience to a young squad that will, largely, be entering unknown territory when they come up against Bayer Leverkusen, Monaco and CSKA Moscow in Europe's elite club competition.
