Robert Lewandowski v Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the newest great football rivalry

Move over Lionel Messi v Cristiano Ronaldo, there's a new great rivalry in town.

Everyone knows Robert Lewandowski and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are incredible strikers and look set to tear up the Bundesliga once again this season.

But now they've gone beyond merely playing for their clubs, and now they've turned their goalscoring exploits into a personal battle.

After Lewandowski scored a hat-trick in Bayern Munich's league opener against Werder Bremen, Aubameyang sent him this cheeky message.

Congratulating and being polite to an opponent? Could only be the German league.

But after Aubameyang himself bagged twice in Borussia Dortmund's first Bundesliga game of the season against Mainz, Lewandowski was quick to repay the compliment.

Aww, you guys.

Aubameyang scored 39 times in 49 games last season for BVB, while Lewandowski scored 42 in 51 matches – the competition may have been fierce last campaign, but it looks like it could get even better this time round.

The two were, of course, team-mates at Dortmund before Lewandowski moved to Bayern in 2014.

Inevitably, fans were loving the love-in, too.
