Schweinsteiger cast out by Mourinho
Manchester United’s smooth start to the Premier League season has been overshadowed somewhat by Jose Mourinho’s treatment of Bastian Schweinsteiger.
Just before the season started, Schweinsteiger was banished from first team training, told to clear his locker, and sent to train with the reserves until he found himself a new team.
This was Mourinho’s unceremonious way of telling Schweini that he was no longer needed.
The player himself has gone about his business without making too big a deal of it, and has even been supporting the team from the Old Trafford stands and via Twitter.
He’s now revealed that United will be his last European club, essentially implying that he’s ready to sit out the final two years of his contract.
Teammates warned him about fitness
But while Schweini has been painted as the innocent victim in all of this, we all know it takes two to tango.
Already last season we’d heard about his regular midweek trips back to Germany, which some players saw as the World Cup winner ‘taking the piss’ in terms of commitment to the team.
And there was more to it, with The Mail revealing tonight that his teammates warned him that he need to stop jet-setting around the world watching wife Ana Ivanovic playing tennis, and spend more time working on his fitness.
The Mail claim that Mourinho was made aware of the tennis images, and that he’d essentially already made up his mind on Schweini before taking over as manager.
