SV Werder Bremen forward Max Kruse will be out for the forseeable future after suffering an injury to his knee in the club’s DFB-Pokal loss to Sportfreunde Lotte.
The 28-year old, who re-signed for newly promoted Bremen during the transfer window after six years away from the club where he made his professional debut, will undergo a further examination this week to determine the full extent of the damage.
Bremen manager Viktor Skripnik discussed the injury with the club’s official website.
“Werder’s number ten will travel to Munich on Tuesday to undergo a medical examination by Dr. Heinz-Jürgen Eichorn,” Die Werderaner’s former player said.
“We will know more shortly,” he continued. “It is sad however, that we will probably have to make do without a key player for even longer.
“We hope that Max recovers quickly and until then we will support him as much as possible,” the 46-year-old, who helped the Bremen side of 2004 win the league and cup double, added.
The 7.5 million Euro signing spent only one season at former club VfL Wolfsburg, where he played a total of 35 matches, scoring eight times and providing seven assists.
