Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel says he won't risk the fitness of Mario Gotze or Marco Reus in the DFB-Pokal clash with Eintracht Trier on Monday.
Gotze played in the 3-0 friendly win over Sandhausen last Monday, having sat out the DFL-Supercup 2-0 defeat to FC Bayern München the day before.
The Germany international picked up a slight adductor injury in training and Tuchel is reluctant to rush him back to action.
Reus, who was expected back in training this month after missing out on Euro 2016 with a groin injury, suffered a re-occurrence in training, and is now expected to remain sidelined.
Ahead of the club's cup clash, Tuchel told Goal: "Mario Gotze has complained about a slight adductor problem after training on Sunday morning, which is best described as muscle tightness.
"As a precaution he will not play at Trier. He worked very hard over the last week. Christian Pulisic will take his place in the squad."
On the injury to Reus, he added: "The first reintegration point we had envisaged passed a few days ago. Caution enjoys the highest priority.
"Since we have not counted the days and obsessively pushed for deadlines, I am only able to say he will return when he does.
"If there is still a risk, we prefer to take a step to the side. We have, therefore, shifted his return back by a few days."
