New Sunderland boss reportedly targeting Marouane Fellaini

David Moyes is reportedly looking to bring in midfielder Marouane Fellaini to help boost his new Sunderland squad. The two first worked together at Everton and then at Manchester United.

The Sun reports the Black Cats could try to get Fellaini for about ï¿¡13 million, which is significantly less than what Moyes paid to bring him to Old Trafford three years ago.

The Belgian has had both good and bad spells during his time with United, and never locked down a consistent role. He scored some crucial goals in big matches, but was often a threat to be sent off and lacked any real influence on the field.

With the arrival of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and the possibility of United bringing in another midfielder, Fellaini's chances of getting significant match-time would likely continue to be limited. It's also unknown what kind of role, if any, he would have under Jose Mourinho.

With that said, Fellaini making a move to Sunderland would be best for all parties involved.

The 28-year-old could have an immediate impact for a club that has battled relegation over the last two years. Fellaini was arguably at his best under the direction of Moyes at Everton, scoring 11 goals and grabbing five assists in his last full Premier League season at Goodison Park.

Moyes can also offer Fellaini something he hasn't had since leaving Everton, which is consistent time on the pitch. The Belgium international played in at least 20 Premier League games in four full seasons with the Toffees, but accomplished that same feat just once at Old Trafford.

Sunderland will likely be trying to fend off relegation again this season. However, adding an experienced player like Fellaini could help them stay in the top-flight.
