Hebei China Fortune were the Chinese Super League club to make the offer, as the ‘Great Haul of China' continues to net more stars by the week.

Serie A side Napoli do not want to sell Higuain for anything less than his £80m (94m euro) release clause.

And that means that the Chinese club would have been willing to part with a minimum sum of £122m in wages and fees for Higuain – assuming he played just one season – to recruit him alongside the likes of Gervinho, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Roy Carroll.

The news that that player has dismissed the a move to China will come as a boost to Arsenal.

The Gunners want the former Real Madrid man in a player-plus-cash swap deal, which would involve Olivier Giroud heading to Naples.

Former Southampton striker Graziano Pelle is the latest star to land a mega-bucks deal in China, becoming the world's sixth-highest paid player.

The Italy international has penned a deal with Shandong Luneng which will see him trouser an incredible £260,000 a week.

Hal Robson-Kanu is another player that could be in line for silly money, with a pair of Chinese clubs circling with £100,000-a-week offers.
