The Borussia Dortmund midfielder is one of Jose Mourinho's top targets as he prepares for his first season in charge at Old Trafford.

Dortmund have been reluctant to sell Mkhitaryan - who has 12 months remaining on his contract but has rejected an extension - after losing Ilkay Gundogan and Mats Hummels.

But Gianluca Di Marzio claims that Dortmund have now agreed to a sale after United said they were prepared to pay £31m for the 27-year-old.

And the report states that only the paperwork needs to be completed before the deal is formally announced.

Starsport exclusively revealed last week that United had stepped up their pursuit of Mkhitaryan after their opening bid of £19m was rejected.

Mourinho wants to add Armenia international Mkhitaryan to his squad as well before United embark on their summer tour of the Far East next month.

His agent Mino Raiola has regularly spoken of the player's desire to move to Old Trafford.

Raiola said: "Manchester are Micki’s dream club, he wants to join them by any means. It would be a sin to stop talking."
