Seko Fofana is set to join Udinese in a deal worth a staggering £3.8m.
The 21-year-old Manchester City midfielder is expected to be announced by the Serie A club in the next day or two, with the fee being an initial £2.3m.
Fofana has been pursued by the Italians after a successful season-long loan at Bastia in France, but he was also wanted by Queen's Park Rangers.
There was also a possibility that Fofana could sign for Watford, who are owned by the son of Udinese owner Giampaolo Pozzo.
Fofana was touted as a possible replacement for Yaya Toure during his youth days at City, where he was noted for his powerhouse surges and spectacular goals.
But he has not quite lived up to that unreasonable hype, and after failing to make the City first team squad other than for last summer's tour to Australia, spent a season on loan at Fulham before heading to France.
Fofana played for France from under-16 up to under-19 level, and was signed from Lorient in 2013.
