JOSE MOURINHO last night gave his thumbs up for Wayne Rooney’s testimonial to go ahead on August 3 at Old Trafford.

Rooney will play his old club Everton in a fully competitive fixture just four days before the Community Shield clash with Leicester.

Former United chief Louis van Gaal refused to commit to the date because of fears they would be playing in a Europa League qualifier.

But Rooney held talks with Mourinho over the weekend and the Special One immediately agreed for the game to be played on August 3.

Everton are without a manager but they are committed to sending a full strength team to the Theatre of Dreams.

Mourinho’s new signings are likely to be on parade and he has told Rooney that he will use the fixture for a thorough pre-season workout.

Rooney will donate the proceeds of the fixture to various charities, including Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool, the Claire House Hospice, Manchester United Football Club Foundation and the NSPCC.
