If you've noticed how good of a mood Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick is in, it may have something to do with the new deal he's expected to sign with his longtime club. Mere weeks after the 34-year-old Carrick was believed to be out the door, he's on the verge of at least one more year with the club. The new deal is thanks in large part to newly-appointed manager Jose Mourinho, who Carrick was quick to heap the praise on.
In an interview with the Mirror [per NBC Sports], Carrick gushed about the new Old Trafford boss and said Mourinho's style and temperament would be ideal for the club.
"You have to be number one and winning trophies and if you can do that with a bit of style and a bit of flair then that is the perfect match but first and foremost it is about winning and getting back on top.
"There is going to be change without a doubt because he is coming in and he is his own man.
"He has got an unbelievable track record and everyone is looking for quick results and that's how it is."
Carrick has been with the Red Devils since 2006 and has made over 400 appearances for the club.
Mourinho was hired several days after the club fired two-year manager Louis van Gaal. The former Chelsea manager has been out of work since his December sacking but was linked to Man United for the bulk of the 2015-16 season.
In 2015, Mourinho led Chelsea to the Premier League and League Cup titles.
