OUT FOR REVENGE: Louis van Gaal wants another job in football

The Dutchman was given the boot on Monday, just two days after winning the FA Cup, as he paid the price for United missing out on the top four and Champions League football next season.

Jose Mourinho was confirmed as his successor on Friday, having been linked with the United job since being sacked by Chelsea in December.

Van Gaal had previously insisted the Old Trafford job would be his last in football and had hoped to see out the final year of his contract before retiring.

But the Sun on Sunday have been told that he is ‘definitely not finished in football’ and will be ‘driven by revenge’ after the way he was treated by United.

They state that Van Gaal would be willing to consider another job in international football.

He has been left furious by the way United’s board treated him and the Sun claim his wife, Truus, told him the BBC were reporting his sacking and the imminent arrival of Mourinho just minutes after lifting the FA Cup last Saturday.

The 64-year-old had thought claiming the club’s first major trophy since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013 would be enough to keep his job.

A source told The Sun: “He had heard everything during the season but the fact remained he was still manager and then won the prize of the FA Cup.

"Maybe his own personality meant he didn’t believe it, yet at Wembley he still didn’t have any official word about his future.

"It was only when he got a text from United boss Ed Woodward on Sunday afternoon, asking for talks as the United train was approaching Stockport, that he knew it was over.”
