Ajax winger Viktor Fischer is poised for a transfer to newly-promoted English Premier League side Middlesborough.
On Monday it was reported in Danish publication Tipsbladet that the 21-year-old was open to an exit from the Dutch giants. but would have to wait it out following the departure of manager Frank De Boer.
"I'm ready to prove myself again, but probably somewhere else. I think that it is a mutual desire," the 21-year-old was quoted as saying. "We still have something to talk about. There is also a new coach, and maybe something will change on the matter."
The Denmark international broke into the Ajax side at the tender age of 17 and went on to score 12 goals in 33 appearances in his debut campaign.
His technical ability and dribbling skills led to immediate comparisons to compatriot Christian Eriksen, with Manchester United subsequently said to be interested in acquiring his services.
However, three seasons later – a dip in form and injuries stalled the youngster's progression at the club, and his return this season of 12 goals and four assists in 45 games has been considered somewhat underwhelming.
According to De Telegraaf, Fischer is now on his way to Teeside for a medical and discussions over personal terms in a cut-price £3.8m deal.
Fischer has made 111 appearances for the de Godenzonen, which yielded a return of 33 goals and 19 assists.
