TARGETS: Rodgers wants to make an impact in Europe with the Scottish champs
Ex-Liverpool boss Rodgers rejected offers to remain in England and move abroad to head to the Scottish champions on a 12-month deal.
The Northern Irishman, who replaces Ronny Deila at his boyhood club, said: "At this moment in time, I’ve got no thoughts of Celtic being a stepping stone and moving back into the Premier League.
"Celtic’s one of the biggest clubs in the world, and for me to come up here out of the Premier League, it’s certainly not a step down.
"I don’t want to work in the Premier League for 20 years, hence the reason I came up here.
"It’s an institution in its own right. I’ve been very lucky to have been given an opportunity to step out the stands and manage the team."
Rodgers – who will bank £2.3m a year - knows that the Scottish game cannot rival England in terms of cash and kudos.
But he refused to listen to the doubters once he’d made up his mind on a switch north of the border.
He added: "Don’t get me wrong, I have had a number of guys who have said ‘Don’t go – why would you go?’
"But this is Celtic and it’s different.
"For me the objective is pretty clear, to continue with domination of Scottish football and also to make an impact on European football."
